Shelby County reports 607 more COVID-19 cases, no new deaths
The Shelby County Health Department reported 607 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Nov. 29.
The 607 coronavirus cases came from 6,376 test results, yielding a 9.5% positivity rate. Test results, however, are not reflective of the previous 24-hour period and include tests over multiple days.
There were no new virus-related deaths reported Saturday or Sunday after 14 new coronavirus deaths in the previous two days.
Overall, the Health Department has reported 47,822 total coronavirus cases and 659 deaths, classifying 43,708 cases as inactive/recovered. Active cases in Shelby County stand at 3,455, an increase from the 3,375 reported Saturday.
Since March, a total of 663,727 coronavirus tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding an 8.7% positivity rate. The number of people tested for coronavirus countywide is 368,148 with 13% of those test results came back positive. The numbers differ because some people have been tested more than once.
There were 422 COVID-19 patients in Memphis-area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. The Health Department will provide hospital information for Thursday through Sunday in Monday’s daily update.
Of the 422 people hospitalized, 295 are in acute care beds, with 127 in intensive care unit beds.
Hospital capacity for acute care beds is at 90% use, and ICU beds are at 92% occupancy.
Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 16% of acute care patients and 33% of ICU patients.
