Coronavirus: 225 new cases and 11 additional deaths

The Shelby County Health Department reported 225 new coronavirus cases and 11 virus-related deaths Sunday, Jan. 31.
That brings the total cases reported by the Health Department since March to 82,653, including 1,265 deaths and 77,447 classified as inactive/recovered.
Sunday’s new cases come from 2,433 tests, yielding a positivity rate of 9.2%.
Currently, there are 3,941 active cases in Shelby County.
As of Thursday, there have been 54,860 vaccinations, with 41,287 people receiving one dose and 13,573 who have received both doses.
The county is continuing to vaccinate at the Pipkin Building and Germantown Baptist Church this week.
Regional hospitalized COVID patients
Updated hospital figures were not available. The Health Department said updated figures for Thursday through Sunday will be given in the Monday update.
As of Wednesday, Jan. 27, there were 365 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 91% of staffed area ICU beds are occupied, as well as 89% of staffed acute care beds. COVID-positive patients account for 26% and 13% of those beds, respectively.
These figures include hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide figures at 2 p.m. daily.
