Coronavirus: 116 new cases, 4 new deaths

The Shelby County Health Department reported 116 new coronavirus cases and four additional virus-related deaths Sunday, March 7.
A total of 175,464 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Shelby County. At least 119,181 people have received one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 56,283 people have received both coronavirus vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
At the present time, Shelby County is vaccinating phase 1a1, 1a2, 1b and those aged 65 and up on an appointment-only basis. Those in phase 1c can also begin scheduling appointments as phase 1c begins Monday. They can be scheduled online or by calling 901-222-7468 (SHOT).
Since March 2020, the Health Department has reported 88,768 total coronavirus cases and 1,527 deaths, classifying 85,885 cases as inactive/recovered.
There were 196 COVID-19 patients in Memphis-area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the latest data available, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. The Health Department will provide weekend hospital data in its Monday update.
Hospital capacity for ICU beds is at 92% use, and acute care beds are at 89% occupancy. The number of area ICU beds available is 32 with 265 acute care beds open.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
Of the 196 people hospitalized, 77 are in intensive care unit beds, with 119 in acute care beds.
Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 22% of ICU patients and 7% of acute care patients.
