A taste of Chicago and Philly, all at once

By , Daily Memphian Published: September 16, 2024 4:00 AM CT

Food truck Chi Phi prides itself on providing Memphians with an authentic taste of Chicago and Philadelphia.

Owners and husband-wife duo Aubrey Hampton and Lamar Dales moved to Memphis three years ago but missed the food from their respective hometowns.

Born and raised in Chicago, Hampton craved Chicago-style hot dogs. Dales, who is originally from Philadelphia, couldn’t find a true, authentic Philly cheesesteak.

“I wasn’t sure (about the concept) because Memphis traditionally is more geared toward the Southern barbecue and Southern meals,” Hampton said. “But I think having something new and fresh has been great for the city.”
