Shelby County sees another day of 400-plus new COVID cases

The Shelby County Health Department reported 404 new coronavirus cases on Monday – the second count of 400-plus cases in the past three days – but no new COVID-related deaths.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Health Department reported 414 new coronavirus cases.
The 404 cases on Oct. 26 come from 5,518 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 7.3%. Saturday’s report of 414 cases came from 6,223 test results, giving the day a 6.7% positivity rate.

In Shelby County, 538,994 coronavirus tests have been performed; about 8% have been positive. And 312,906 people have been tested for coronavirus; about 12% have received a positive test result.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 36,492 cases, including 33,178 inactive cases, 2,751 active cases and 563 deaths.
There were 256 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds, as of 5 p.m. Sunday, per state data; 77 were in intensive care units.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 87% of area ICU beds and 89% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 21% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (77) or suspected of having coronavirus (1). About 10% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (180) or suspected of having coronavirus (26).
And 55 ICU and 269 acute care beds were available.
The state’s Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus statistics daily at 2 p.m.
As of Sunday, the agency reported 247,587 coronavirus cases, including 3,131 deaths, 973 current hospitalizations and 218,067 inactive cases.
About 3.5 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
