The Shelby County Health Department reported 377 new coronavirus cases and two more virus-related deaths on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

There are also 410 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Monday, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. That is the highest reported total in the pandemic to date. 

Health officials: New restrictions a compromise to head off holiday surge

The 377 reported cases came from 3,602 test results, yielding a 10.5% daily positivity rate. Tuesday’s new case numbers match the current 14-day case average (377) in Shelby County.

Overall, the Health Department has reported 45,952 total coronavirus cases and 637 deaths, classifying 41,137 cases as inactive/recovered. Active cases in Shelby County stand at 4,178, an increase from the 4,125 reported Monday.

A total of 357,910 people have been tested for coronavirus, and 12.8% have received positive results. The total coronavirus tests performed in Shelby County is 642,522 with 8.6% have returned positive results.

The Health Department will give more detail on recent data at a noon Tuesday press briefing.

Of the 410 people hospitalized, 294 are in acute care beds, with 116 in intensive care unit beds.

Hospital capacity for acute care and ICU beds is at 89% use. Both remain in the “yellow” metric, between 80 to 90% utilization.

Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 16% of acute care patients and 34% of ICU patients.
