Six days before Larry Pickens allegedly shot and killed a doctor at Campbell Clinic in Collierville, the practice’s Germantown location called the police about his behavior.
On Wednesday, July 5, Campbell Clinic staff called the Germantown Police Department twice, according to a police report obtained Thursday. Employees were concerned by Pickens’ unusual behavior.
However, Pickens never threatened violence at that clinic, Germantown police reported.
After officers arrived that Wednesday, Pickens left the Germantown office, but he returned shortly thereafter. That caused a second call to the suburban police department and a warning.
The report said Pickens was asking strange questions about where the doctors park their cars. Campbell Clinic staff wanted him warned by police against trespassing, and the report said Pickens said he understood what would happen if he returned to the property.
“There were no threats of violence made by Mr. Pickens,” Capt. Kevin Simpson said. “Officers encountered him. He was subsequently asked to leave the property, and he was trespass warned.”
Pickens allegedly shot and killed Dr. Ben Mauck at Campbell Clinic’s Collierville office about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11. He was arrested by police and is being held in a Collierville jail. His bond is set at $1.2 million.
Campbell Clinic announced in a statement Wednesday that it has resumed normal business hours at all its locations except Collierville, which will remain closed.
