The Memphis Area Transit Authority’s interim chief financial officer urged Memphis Mayor Paul Young to find more funding for the bus system before it runs out of cash at the end of February.
The Daily Memphian reported two weeks ago that the bus system had one month of cash remaining. MATA leadership gave the transit authority’s board further details this week, increasing pressure on the city administration to find more cash.
In October, the MATA board, in its first action since Young appointed a wholly new slate of members, voted to postpone planned cuts to the bus system until February. Then-interim CEO Bacarra Mauldin said Young had promised her the city would find the money.
