Collierville names courtroom after late judge
Collierville is naming the town's courtroom after late Judge William Craig Hall, who died in December.
The board unanimously adopted a resolution at a special called meeting Friday morning naming the room the William Craig Hall Courtroom.
"We have honored past elected officials and other people by naming something for them," Mayor Stan Joyner said. "This is totally appropriate."
Hall served the town as judge for 35 years.
Joyner described Hall as "having compassion while administering just punishment."
Hall helped the town open its courthouse on Walnut Street near the Collierville Square. He also helped the courts establish programs, including one for juvenile offenders.
Joyner said Hall would send young offenders with traffic tickets to driving school and give them community service opportunities. Sometimes, the tickets would not go on their record.
"Craig Hall's integrity, values and leadership transcended the walls of Collierville Courthouse into the community where he was well respected and admired," the resolution states.
