Coronavirus: New cases still below 200, but hospitalizations climb statewide
According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 87,470 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 38,325 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
And 125,795 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.
At the present time, the Shelby County Health Department is in Phase 1b of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan. This phase makes vaccination available to residents who are 65 years and older, teachers, and childcare staff. People can check online or to call 901 222-SHOT (7468) to be notified when appointments are available. People can also sign up for the VaxQueue standby list.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 192 new coronavirus cases and 12 new coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Those 192 cases come from 3,230 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 5.9%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 87,840 cases, including 85,026 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,318 active cases and 1,496 deaths.
There were 231 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26 according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System. According to the HRTS, 90% of area intensive care unit and 88% of area acute care beds were in use.
And 38 area ICU and 291 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Saturday, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 773,887 cases, including 11,393 deaths, 925 current hospitalizations and 746,954 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 6,769,438 coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee. The statewide positivity rate is 5.93%.
