Early-voting dates and location set for Collierville runoff
Dates for early voting in Collierville’s two runoff races for alderman will begin Wednesday, Nov. 18, according to the Shelby County Election Commission.
The times were set Friday with 43 hours of early voting before the Dec. 8 election to decide Position 3 between incumbent John Worley and challenger Harold Booker and Position 4 with William Boone and Missy Marshall running to serve the remaining two years of Tom Allen’s term. Allen died this past summer.
Early voting will run through Dec. 3 at Collierville Church of Christ located at 575 Shelton Road.
No candidate in the two races received 50% of the vote during the Nov. 3 general election, leading to a runoff between the top two finishers, according to the Collierville town charter.
The Shelby County Election Commission could not certify the results on Friday due to the process with a state portal. The results will be certified in a meeting at 2 p.m. Monday.
Commissioner Bernie Smith and Brent Taylor wanted hours similar to previous early-voting dates for the Nov. 3 election to eliminate any confusion.
Linda Phillips, the administrator of elections, said early voting costs the town $53,000, and she wishes state law was changed to allow fewer days.
Early-voting times are as follows:
- Wednesday, Nov. 18, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 21, 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 24, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 25, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 28, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 30, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 1, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
- Wednesday Dec. 2, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
- Thursday Dec. 3, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Election Commissioners also decided to change two locations for the Dec. 8 runoff election. Residents who voted at Houston High will use Covenant Baptist if they do not vote early. Similarly, those who voted at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will vote at Southwind Elementary.
The Election Commission will send letters to those voters notifying them of the change. Other will vote at their normal precinct if they wait until Dec. 8.
