Later Wednesday morning, an update from the church said the sole survivor was breathing on his own and communicating through writing.

Steve Tucker, who was piloting a plane near Yoakum Municipal Airport when it crashed, killing him and three other passengers, was president of a saddle company located across the street from the small Texas town’s airport. Related story:
