He previously covered LSU sports in Baton Rouge, and the University of Louisiana football and basketball for The Daily Advertiser/USA TODAY Network in Lafayette, the NBA’s Utah Jazz for the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning for the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, and West Texas State basketball for the Amarillo Globe News in Texas.

Family viewing preferences brought Jeff Woods to his first TV outlet and his first Danny Thomas Memphis Classic.

Four decades later, after one name change was followed by a few more, the PGA Tour tournament stop in Memphis is now known as the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The whole while, Woods’ television station has remained the same. And it’s all because the then-Memphis State University communications senior needed an internship.
