The Juke could join more ‘Jams’ Downtown

Monique Williams already operates Biscuits & Jams’ two locations. Now, she’s planning another music-centric concept.
The Juke would be a speakeasy located in the basement underneath Williams’ full-service bar and restaurant in Hotel Indigo. The space was formerly Memphis Sounds, a bar and music venue.
To help bring the project to fruition, Williams is applying for a $12,000 retail improvement grant from the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Center City Development Corp. The grant would go to exterior signage, lighting, beverage lockers and contingency money.
The Juke will offer food and a full bar and will cater to those interested in hearing authentic local music from the Memphis and Mid-South regions.
The DMC staff recommended approval of the grant.
“A relatively small but strategic grant will make a significant impact in supporting the vision of this business owner to transform a vacant basement space into a new destination and point of interest in Downtown Memphis,” the report stated.
