After less than a year of serving cocktails, small plates and entrees in a picturesque Downtown setting, The Archives Bar & Bistro is closing.

“After careful thought and consideration, I’ve decided to step away from The Archives Bar & Bistro,” Chef Phillip Dewayne said in a statement. “I am truly grateful for everyone who dined at and supported The Archives. Memphis always has a way of showing up and showing out.”

Dewayne opened the restaurant in the renovated Hotel Napoleon in September 2024. The restaurant was known for experiences such as wine tastings, spirit pairings and caviar bumps (eating a spoonful of caviar off the back of the hand) — sometimes even with Dewayne himself.

The hotel was not available to comment on what’s next for the 179 Madison Ave. space.

“The Archives was home to some unforgettable special tastings,” Dewayne’s statement said. “I look forward to continuing those events at different locations. For now, I’m redirecting my energy toward my other business ventures.”

Dewayne continues to own and operate Park + Cherry, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens’ restaurant, Recover meal prep services, and Savor Catering
