Hillcrest falls in Class 1A title game
Hillcrest players pose with the runner-up trophy after losing to Chattanooga Preparatory School in the Class 1A championship game at the TSSAA boys’ state basketball tournament Saturday, March 22, 2025, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Mark Humphrey/Special to The Daily Memphian)
MURFREESBORO — Daryeon Terrell had a message for the powers that be Saturday. More of a plea really; the lighting in the Hillcrest High gym is in desperate need of an upgrade.
“Please put that in there,” he said with a laugh as his players, Alex Morgan and Ja’Coby Lewis chuckled along next to him. “They need to remodel the gym.”
That the Vikings could laugh after the Class 1A boys basketball state championship game was a lesson in perspective. A thoroughly impressive Chattanooga Prep squad took control early and won its second straight title with a 77-50 victory.
