Conaway: Whistling isn’t evil. Whistling something evil is evil.
Actress Lauren Bacall gives a toot on a gold whistle attached to her bracelet, to let her new husband Humphrey Bogart, who calls her "Baby", know what it sounds like, as they arrive May 25,1945 in Pasadena, Calif., from Mansfield, Ohio, where they were married earlier in the week. The whistle is a remembrance of her film debut in which she tells Bogart "If you want anything, just whistle." (AP file photo/Dick Strobel)

A columnist since 2010, his distinguished advertising career has branded ribs in the Rendezvous and ducks in The Peabody, pandas in the zoo and Grizzlies in the NBA. Stories in Memphis tend to write themselves. He’s helped a few along. Two book collections of his columns have been published.
“The terms Republican and Democrat have become dog whistles to gather on the far right and far left. The colors red and blue, and the words conservative and liberal have been co-opted into whistles.”
