The Memphis Tigers lost Kendric Davis to injury, lost 24 turnovers and somehow still managed to beat Central Florida Thursday night. It may not have been the most important win in Memphis history. But it was unlike any that have come before. 

Davis injured his right ankle with 4:25 left in the first half of Memphis’ 64-63 win over UCF at FedExForum on Thursday.

Without injured Kendric Davis, the Tigers’ lead evaporated. With seven seconds left, Damaria Franklin played hero. The 6-foot-3 guard created a steal and then made the fastbreak layup that proved to be the difference.

McCarver, a CBHS graduate, who became an All-Star catcher and World Series champion for the St. Louis Cardinals and a Hall of Fame Major League Baseball broadcaster, died Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Grizzlies were hot early, but had to hold on for dear life late, their 24-point lead in the first half reduced to only one in the second.

Ja, JJJ have special plans for All-Star break

The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Utah Jazz at FedExForum on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.

First-year baseball coach Kerrick Jackson has created a new culture at Memphis. Fans will get their first chance to see what that looks like when the Tigers open the season against Samford on Friday. 

Sports Authority will also likely issue new debt for FedExForum renovations as well as be involved with providing financing options for Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium improvements. 

Memphis’ face-off with UCF offers the Tigers a chance to grab a sixth Quadrant 2 victory.

The pressure is on to deliver, but not necessarily on the basketball court. 

Running back Sutton Smith and receiver Roc Taylor could have breakout seasons this year. 

The former ECS assistant comes to the program after several seasons as head coach at Trinity Christian in Jackson, Tennessee.

Drake Bowers, Wills Bronson and Alex Ropski are looking to end impressive seasons with Division 2 state championships.
