Memphis football announced its spring game, and two former Tigers offered feedback on who they expect to be productive in 2025. 

Monday in Nashville, the TSSAA’s executive council passed a one-time transfer rule for high school athletes.

The Associated Press Sports Editors organization recognized several of The Daily Memphian’s sports staff members for their writing and reporting in APSE’s annual journalism awards competition.

Memphis has wins over No. 8 Michigan State, No. 11 Clemson and No. 15 Missouri.

The NBA’s 82-game regular season comes with two primary goals: Qualify and position yourself for the playoffs and prepare yourself to compete when you’re there. The Grizzlies seem to approach the season in a manner that seeks to satisfy the first without compromising the second.

“Just as a competitor, it’s everything,” Penny Hardaway said after his No. 18 Tigers beat UAB 88-81 Sunday. “You look forward to these types of games. These games are what makes players.”

Morant fined for throwing the basketball into the stands Friday night during the Grizzlies game with the New York Knicks.

By the end of the game Sunday afternoon, it was closer to a nightmare for the Blazers. And there would be no revenge, as the Memphis Tigers completed a brilliant second half comeback — and a regular-season sweep of the preseason AAC favorite. 

PJ Haggerty scored 17 of his 25 points in the final 12 minutes to help No. 18 Memphis rally from an 11-point deficit to beat UAB 88-81.

Fox broke a tie with 2.6 seconds left for the last of his 20 points and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Memphis Grizzlies 130-128 on Saturday night despite 42 points from Jaren Jackson Jr.

The Saints handled Chattanooga Baylor, and the Gryphons defeated Christ Academy of Knoxville in a road game.

Penny Hardaway expects “a bare-knuckle fight” when his No. 18 Tigers (23-5, 13-2 AAC) take on regional rival UAB on Sunday (3 p.m., ESPN) at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Ja Morant’s last shot missed, costing the Grizzlies the game against New York. But he had 25 points and seven assists in this one. It was 29 and eight against Phoenix. It was 21 and 10 in a close loss to Cleveland. And 23 and five in the win at Orlando.

OG Anunoby’s game-winning basket came after the teams exchanged leads in the final two minutes.
