Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is recognizing a spring sports athlete of the week. But we need your help.
Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games, and we’d like for you — our readers — to select the winner. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9.
Caleb Doty, Lausanne baseball: Doty has been an integral part of a successful spring for the Lynx, who are bidding to reach Spring Fling for the first time in program history. On May 4, he held a strong St. George’s team to one hit over seven innings in a 3-0 victory. Earlier, Doty tossed five innings of three-hit ball and also went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI as Lausanne blanked ECS, 10-0.
Addie Graham, Arlington softball: You’ve heard of automatic outs. Graham is practically the opposite. The senior went 3 for 3 with two triples, three runs scored and four driven in as the Tigers run-ruled Bartlett, 11-1, in district tournament play. For the season, Graham is batting a remarkable .707.
Tylan Graves, Bartlett baseball: Pitching often comes to the fore during the postseason and that was certainly true when Bartlett met Houston in a district tournament elimination game on May 3. Graves went the distance, holding the Mustangs to just four hits while striking out seven in a 2-1 victory. Additionally, Graves went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Larry Hampton, Trezevant baseball: Football in the fall, basketball in the winter, baseball and track in the spring; Hampton is a man for all seasons. The senior went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, a homer, four runs scored and six RBI in a 20-4 win over East on April 30 and followed with another home run the next day as the Bears topped Douglass, 15-3.
Max Stegall, ECS lacrosse: Stegall had his shot working in a playoff match against Nashville Ensworth on May 3, scoring eight goals as the Eagles advanced with an 18-4 victory.
