Briarcrest’s supporting actors are stepping into starring roles

Having two very good players will take you a long way in high school basketball. And there’s no question that Briarcrest has two very good players.
The first is Josh Huggins, a versatile and dynamic scorer who has made a seamless transition as a sophomore after transferring from Murfreesboro’s Providence Christian Academy.
The other, of course, is senior Fred Smith. The reigning Mr. Basketball in the larger of Tennessee’s two private-school divisions has ceded some of the scoring load to Huggins, while still using his advanced basketball brain to process the ebbs and flows of the game and exploit them to his advantage.
