The Tigers’ men’s and women’s basketball teams will face two of the toughest teams in the country in a doubleheader that will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Bouna Kebe, a 6-foot-10 big man, averaged 11.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season as a sophomore for NJCAA Gillette (Wyoming) College.

The new building will be located close to soccer, baseball, softball and track and field venues, including the future Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium. 

“You’ll hear it from everybody, but Clarence just was a great guy, soft-spoken, good person — just always had a great spirit about him,” said Murry Bartow, son of then-Tigers coach Gene Bartow. 

In a Q&A with national college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Hardaway said, “I don’t need the money. I came back to the school to teach young men and to try and help my city out and my school out and it’s like I’ve been under some microscope that’s unbelievable.”

The 6-foot-1 point guard who played for Memphis last season explained his retirement decision via Instagram.

Scott said Memphis has not gotten an update from the NCAA regarding the case stemming from Malcolm Dandridge’s eligibility status, whose findings Scott confirmed the Tigers self-reported to the NCAA.

Memphis Tigers coach Penny Hardaway announced Wednesday that four coaches would not return, just two months before the Tigers open their 2024-25 season against Missouri at FedExForum on Nov. 4. 

“Penny Hardaway has fired Rick Stansbury and three other staffers just weeks before a new season begins. The continuing chaos is not ideal.”

Memphis Tigers athletic director Ed Scott was asked about the coaching staff changes and said, “I have no comment on that.”
