Memphis linebacker carted off field in game against Rice
Memphis linebacker Karmelo Overton collapsed on the field at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium during the second quarter of Friday night’s game against Rice.
After colliding with two Rice players on a kickoff, Overton took a few steps before falling to the field and was carted off on a stretcher. It was reported that Overton was transported to Regional One Health. Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield said immediately after the game that tests were still being done at the hospital.

“He was able to talk,” Silverfield said. “He was able to communicate and those things. There were some positives there.”
Overton is a redshirt freshman from Ozark, Alabama. He has appeared in all nine games this season.
“The health and safety ... of our players is my No. 1 concern,” Silverfield said. “It’s like my family. When stuff like that happens, it hurts you. Man, there goes one of my boys down there on the ground.”
