As another season begins, everything is different about Memphis football. Except everything that matters.

University of Memphis football coach Ryan Silverfield looks for the run game, field-goal kicking and defense to be more reliable than last year. 

Aresco says FBS football breaking away from the NCAA would help level the playing field. “We can fight for a healthier and more equitable system on the various fronts that are still in play that are still available to us.”

The Tigers have now been ranked fifth for two consecutive years. 

The preseason watchlists for national awards are rolling out, and three Tigers have made it on four different watchlists so far.

“Any time you have the opportunity to play an in-state opponent, it makes sense from a recruiting and logistical standpoint,” coach Ryan Silverfield said in a statement.

No matter what’s going on with conference realignment, Ryan Silverfield’s focus is on the program. 

Athletic Director Laird Veatch believes the Tigers are right on the bubble of possible conference realignment, and increasing football ticket sales would help. 

Calvin Austin III has a speed rating of 95 on Madden NFL 23, which is top 10 of all receivers. 

Around 75 women participated in the clinic to tour the facility and learn more about the football program, players and coaches.

Third-year coach Ryan Silverfield is “safe and secure” in his job, according to the annual college football rankings by CBS. 

The Tigers ranked near the bottom of the league in rushing yards, total yards allowed and time of possession. 

Former quarterback Brady White will be back on the sidelines as an offensive graduate assistant. 

The Tigers’ 2021 class ranked No. 49 by Rivals.com. The 2022 class ranked No. 46 and the 2023 class is currently ranked No. 56. 

Memphis is ranked in the top 20 in NIL compensation.

Memphis will host the Broncos in 2023 and will play in Idaho in 2026. 

Memphis Tigers defensive back Greg Rubin was targeted a lot by quarterbacks as a freshman, and he turned that into having the second-most pass deflections in the conference. 

Joseph Scates plays with confidence but didn’t join the Tigers with a big ego. “I just want to work,” he said. 

In addition to helping Vitalant reduce the Memphis area’s shortage of blood and platelet donors, football players also pitched in to assist some pups from Memphis Animal Services get a field trip.

Kicker Chris Howard will join the Tigers, who struggled with field goals last season.

Memphis landed two defensive linemen and a linebacker to the 2023 recruiting class on Saturday. 

The John Overton High School standout joins Fayetteville’s Isaiah Thomison.

The AAC will look different following the 2022 season after Cincinnati, Houston and UCF move to the Big 12.
