OrthoSouth Grizzlies Player of the Week
The voters have spoken. And they have chosen Isaiah Windless and Londyn Griffin as the OrthoSouth Fans’ Choice high school basketball players of the week.
Windless won 58% of this week’s boys total after leading Crosstown High to perhaps the signature victory in program history Jan. 22. He poured in 31 points along with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in a 63-61 win against East.
Second place, at 34%, went to Kirby’s Carey McClain. Jordan Myles of Houston, Aidan Becksfort of Northpoint and City University’s Kevion Robertson rounded out the field.
Griffin was selected by 66% of the fans following her performance in a victory against Harding on Jan. 23. She finished with 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting and grabbed seven boards to lead the Trojans, 45-39.
Lausanne’s Zoe Pretzer placed second at 29%. White Station’s Charity Relliford was third followed by Kendall Jones of Briacrest and Houston’s Kallie Marsh.
Becksfort, Jones earn staff honors
Our staff picks, meanwhile, will be Becksfort and Jones, and they will be honored as the Grizzlies’ Player of the Week.
Becksfort averaged 36 points and 13 rebounds in three games during the voting period, including a 47-point outing against Westminster that represents the most points scored by any local player — boy or girl — this season.
Jones, meanwhile, had an outstanding all-around game in Briacrest’s crucial 67-52 win against Hutchison, finishing with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
