Germantown to continue water distribution Tuesday

By , Daily Memphian Published: July 25, 2023 11:35 AM CT

Germantown will continue distributing water Tuesday, July 25, as the majority of the suburb remains under a flush-only order.

The city will distribute one case of water per car at Forest Hill Elementary School (3368 Forest Hill-Irene Rd.) from 4 to 7 p.m. Additionally, residents can fill their own containers of water at Bailey Station Elementary (3435 Bailey Station Rd.) from 4 to 7 p.m.

Residents west of Forest Hill-Irene have been asked to reduce their tap water usage after the city found that diesel from a generator, which was being used at the city’s Southern Avenue water plant, had leaked into an underground reservoir. Approximately 100 gallons of the fuel leaked, contaminating 4.2 million gallons of water.

Germantown mayor: Water tests did not come back with ‘all-clear’

Since the city’s other water plant, the Johnson Road plant, is a decent distance from the Southern Avenue plant, residents east of Forest Hill, and those in the Enclave and Landsdowne neighborhoods, were able to resume normal water usage over the past weekend.
