Patrons peruse offerings at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in at 2679 Kirby Whitten Road in Bartlett. Former Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald said if a thrift store has charity status “then there’s no income to the city.” (Ziggy Mack/The Daily Memphian file)

Alderman David Reaves introduced the idea at a recent Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, citing a growing trend across the country of the younger demographic shopping at thrift stores.
“Thrifting has become a major business for the younger generation, and we may need to consider what that means for us,” Reaves said at a Feb. 10 Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting.
