New Fino’s to open in Germantown — and it will have doughnuts

Fino’s from the Hill is headed east. And it’s adding doughnuts — at least at its new location. 

Within the next two weeks, Fino’s Corner Market is expected to open at the current location of Happy Glaze Donuts, 7781 Farmington Blvd. in Germantown.

If you’re wondering how doughnuts and sandwiches might coexist, Caleb Sigler, marketing director for Iris Restaurant Group, said the company, which owns Fino’s and now Happy Glaze, was looking to get into breakfast. 

“Happy Glaze was looking for a new partner,” Sigler said. “We were also looking to expand Fino’s, and Happy Glaze had an area in Germantown already.” 

The new Fino’s Corner Market will offer doughnuts and other breakfast items in the mornings. Later in the day, the business’ doughnut food truck will hit the road, and the restaurant will transition to the Fino’s lunch menu, which includes the majority of the Fino’s from the Hill menu, as well as grab-and-go items. 

The original Fino’s in Midtown will also continue to operate at the corner of Madison Avenue and McLean Boulevard.

“We are thrilled to start strategically looking at what the Fino’s brand can be, starting in Germantown,” Iris Restaurant Group co-owner Kelly English said in a statement. “Sandwiches are one of my favorite food groups. Look for a robust grab-and-go offering as well as pizza and pasta. With the purchase of Happy Glaze and the Fino’s expansion, our team is now able to offer a much wider range of options to better fit the needs of our ever growing and changing city.”

The Iris Restaurant Group is co-owned by English and Steve and Sylvia Richey. Ryan Davis, owner of Happy Glaze, is part of the partnership of the Happy Glaze aspect of the brand.

Until Fino’s Corner Market opens, Happy Glaze will continue to operate in the space. 

And could doughnuts one day be on the menu at the Midtown Fino’s? 

“We do want some cross-pollination (between Fino’s in Midtown and Fino’s Corner Market) to happen, but we don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like yet,” Sigler said.
