Germantown proposes city flag

Germantown leaders reviewed a couple designs for a potential city flag this week, and officials seem to be leaning towards a design focusing on the suburb’s northern border along the Wolf River.

The suburb doesn’t have such a banner, although there is an appetite for one. Mayor Mike Palazzolo is asked to send city flags to events two to four times a year. When Shelby County celebrated its bicentennial at Shelby Farms in 2019, Germantown found something, but it didn’t have a true flag.

Palazzolo said Alderman Scott Sanders and others promoted the idea of an official flag to fly around the city.

The City of Memphis and Shelby County have specific flags. All the other suburbs, except Collierville, have an official flag. Collierville does not have one, but does have its seal on a white flag in Town Hall.

Andy Pouncey, Germantown city historian, and former Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy worked with city staff to create the two designs shown below.
