Funds for Germantown sports complex absent from governor’s budget
The City of Germantown has plans for vacant land near Crestwyn Hills to become a sports complex with multipurpose fields and an indoor sports facility. Funding for the project from the state of Tennessee was not included in Gov. Bill Lee’s budget. (Mark Weber/The Daily Memphian file)
Despite Germantown’s request, Gov. Bill Lee did not include $10 million for the suburb’s sports complex in his budget amendment released this week, but city officials are seeking other funding routes.
The absence marked the second straight year the governor did not grant Germantown’s request for state help in building the complex on a 46-acre site south of Crestwyn Hills Drive.
“That would be very advantageous,” Jason Huisman, Germantown city administrator, said of the state funding. “To be able to get into the (governor’s) budget doesn’t require as many administrative things to work through.”
