Workout group draws Germantown police attention

By , Daily Memphian Updated: August 07, 2025 7:14 AM CT | Published: August 06, 2025 4:21 PM CT

A group of about 50 men trying to start their day with a workout last week was met by Gemantown police as they were wrapping up at the suburb’s Soccerplex on CD Smith Road.

The group is associated with F3, a free peer-led workout organization prioritizing fitness, fellowship and faith. The group originated in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has spread across the country, including several in the Memphis area.

But the men were approached by police last Friday because they did not have a permit for such a gathering on city property. Minutes before they were finishing their workout at 6:15 a.m., police showed up at the request of Parks and Recreation. The park doesn’t open until 6 a.m., but by the time officers arrived, it was past that.
