Lakeland juggling multiple projects that could change suburb’s landscape

With three tax-increment-financing districts in play and a fourth in the works, Lakeland’s Industrial Development Board is keeping busy these days with projects that could change the suburb’s landscape.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, the IDB addressed issues related to its three active TIF districts. One project discussed — spurred by former city Commissioner Richard Gonzales — was a status report on The Lake District, the ill-fated development on the east side of Canada Road south of Interstate 40.
The Lake District has been stalled for a year and a half after a bankruptcy and subsequent foreclosure sale. The lender TIG Romspen acquired the property in a foreclosure sale in May.
