With Lakeland designated as a child-care desert, residents will have another much-needed option in the next couple years.
The Lakeland Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Dec. 5, approved an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Human Services for the construction of an early-learning child-care center within the planned Lakeland Community Center north of the Interstate 40-Canada Road interchange.
The community center will occupy the site of the former Econo Lodge property within the Lakeland Gateway redevelopment area.
