Arlington added to TDOT priority list for revamped I-40 interchange
“We’ve been asking for a new interchange since I’ve been mayor, but our traffic count wasn’t high enough,” said Mayor Mike Wissman, who was first elected in 2011. (Greg Campbell/The Daily Memphian file)
Arlington is rapidly outgrowing its Interstate 40 interchange at Airline Road, leading the Tennessee Department of Transportation to move the project to redesign and add it onto the priority list.
“We’ve been asking for a new interchange since I’ve been mayor, but our traffic count wasn’t high enough,” said Mayor Mike Wissman, who was first elected in 2011. Officials have stressed to TDOT in recent years the town’s projected growth was the primary concern for needing the improvements.
“So we’re just really excited that TDOT has recognized that finally and said it needs to be a priority,” Wissman said.
