Residents in Collierville’s North Main neighborhoods want action on flooding

Marianne Simshauser’s front yard of her Collierville home is pristine but the land behind her residence is difficult to maintain.
The culprit is heavy rain drenching the North Main area north of Poplar. Residents in the area are concerned by the amount of water soaking their property and the effects of such significant rain events.
In the past, the town told Simshauser that she was the only person dealing with such a problem. But other residents on her cove addressed the Board of Mayor and Aldermen last Monday, and it’s not the first time they’ve sought action for the flooding problem.
“We’ve legitimately tried multiple avenues,” she said.
Natalie Stiver struggled to talk about a significant rain event that affected her home on Rogers Wood Cove during Monday’s meeting.
“It’s very traumatic to wake up and your entire pool is trees and mud,” she told the board tearfully.
