Collierville Schools move into new home

The new Collierville Schools central office has been renovated just for them, a building that truly suits their needs.

The school district’s leadership moved to the new office at 215 W. Poplar Ave. this summer and held an open house Tuesday afternoon.

The move has been in the works since 2023. The space formerly hosted some University of Memphis classes. However, after the pandemic, offerings dwindled, and the U of M ultimately decided to close the campus and terminate its lease with Collierville. 

The town owned the building. The rent paid by the university helped with the debt service. Suburban leaders thought about moving some town staff there, but the school district was facing some limitations. So, James Lewellen, former town administrator, asked the district if they needed the space.

“All I had to do was come in and move things,” Superintendent Russell Dyer said, noting the process was well underway by the time he arrived in March.

While Collierville staff liked their previous offices in the town’s historic high school, employees were in cubicles, and the space had limitations. It was hard to find room for meetings about confidential matters.
