Suburbs join forces to ask for juvenile center in West Tennessee

Despite having fairly low crime rates compared to Memphis, the Shelby County suburbs would like to see an additional juvenile-detention facility for the region.
Bartlett, Collierville and Germantown have approved resolutions urging Gov. Bill Lee and state legislators to invest in an appropriately sized juvenile detention and rehabilitation facility in West Tennessee.
Lakeland and Millington plan to review their resolutions in September. Arlington will consider it in October, Mayor Mike Wissman said. Arlington canceled Tuesday’s monthly Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting due to a conflict with the memorial service for Jeff Mayo, the suburb’s school superintendent who died earlier this week.
