Lakeland’s continued pursuit of having an increased Shelby County Sheriff’s Office presence in the suburb is getting closer to reality.
The city’s Board of Commissioners gave city manager Michael Walker approval Thursday, Sept. 19, to execute a letter of intent submitted by The Lake District LLC. That will allow the negotiation for a lease agreement within the mixed-use project south of Interstate 40 off Canada Road.
Lakeland officials have discussed finding a location for the Sheriff’s Office for the past couple of years, and the area near the expressway exit was a prime option.
