“I’m proud of our team for their fight,” Memphis coach Alex Simmons said. “I’m very proud of Alasia Smith, and her leadership on the court and her fight on the court, and just her willingness to sacrifice for the team.”

Smith had 12 rebounds and five blocks to go with 16 points.

The Tigers (3-10, 1-1) had a rough nonconference schedule, but started the AAC stretch with a win over Wichita State on Jan. 1 before going toe-to-toe with a North Texas team that has the second-best overall league record behind UTSA.
