Legislation filed to make Germantown mayor full time

State Sen. Brent Taylor, R-Eads, and state Rep. Mark White, R-Memphis, filed legislation this week regarding changing the duties of the Germantown mayor to a full-time position.
The legislation, filed Thursday, Feb. 27, comes after the suburb’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted in October to begin the process of giving final say to the residents in a 2026 referendum. However, the legislation, sponsored by the two legislators whose districts include Germantown, is the next step in a lengthy process to change the charter.
The effort at the local level was spearheaded by Jon McCreery, a former alderman.
