Collierville might raise taxes

Collierville is considering a property tax increase of 12 cents beyond its certified rate, but that’s still lower than some other Shelby County suburbs.
The town must adjust its tax rate in light of reappraisals. Property values usually rise, and so communities must roll back the amount to a certified rate so they don’t get a windfall of revenues. However, communities can increase it if needed. The Collierville finance staff estimates a rollback of 35 cents in the suburb to a certified rate of $1.49 per $100 of assessed value.
With a 12-cent adjustment, the tax rate would become $1.61 per $100 of assessed value. That’s still lower than neighboring suburbs. Germantown discussed an increase of about 29 cents, and Bartlett is considering a 25- to 28-cent increase above the certified rate, according to Collierville officials.
