Silverfield blunt about roster uncertainty heading into 2025 season

In mid-May, a little more than three months before the start of the 2025 college football season, Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield looked at the Tigers’ roster and asked himself questions that only California judge Claudia Wilken can truly answer.
Wilken has her finger on the trigger of arguably the biggest decision in the history of college sports — a $2.8 billion House vs. NCAA court case-settlement approval — and some are patiently waiting to find out if and when she’ll pull it.
The settlement, if granted, would usher in a new wave of student-athlete compensation, allowing athletic departments to directly pay athletes by sharing more than $20 million of annual revenue starting July 1. Power conference schools are bound by the settlement while non-power conference schools have the choice to opt in.
