Despite unplanned losses, St. George’s hoops piecing together success

A recent road trip to Whitehaven High was an eye-opening experience for the St. George’s basketball team.

It also opened Gryphons’ coach Dee Wilkes’ eyes. In a good way.

“We were coming off a stretch of, I think, six games in eight days,” Wilkes said of his team’s Jan. 5 visit to the Haven. “Our guys were wide-eyed. Whitehaven came out with three 6-(foot)-8, 6-9 guys. They’re huge; they’ve got the music playing.
