Here’s the dill: Boss Lady Pickles gets a chance at Cordelia’s
Three years after Erica Sutton began her company Boss Lady Pickles, her pickles are now sold at Cordelia’s Market through Shelf Ready, an initiative from the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Small Business Council. (Courtesy of the Greater Memphis Chamber)
A few years ago, Erica Sutton was in her 22nd year as a FedEx manager when she accidentally found herself in a pickle — or more accurately, she found herself making a homemade pickle.
“I was mimicking my mother. She had a garden, and I wanted to do the same, and the only thing that grew were cucumbers,” Sutton said. “One night, I was hungry, didn’t have anything to make with it, so I just chopped them up and threw them in some old pickle juice.”
She said that first jar of pickles led her “down a rabbit hole,” and she began making pickles for friends and people at work, who called her Boss Lady.
