How former Miami coach Randy Shannon joined the Memphis staff

All it took was about a week of being around the Memphis Tigers football program for former Miami head coach Randy Shannon to make a noticeable impression on the players, especially linebacker Mike Montgomery. 

“Mike Montgomery came in with half the linebacker room and said, ‘Coach, we gotta keep Coach Shannon,’” Huff said before Tuesday’s practice.

Montgomery is getting his wish as Shannon is joining the Tigers as a defensive analyst. Huff said there is still some red tape to sort through, but the news came days before Memphis is scheduled to open the season at UNLV on Saturday (9 p.m., FOX).
