John Varlas
John Varlas is a lifelong Memphian who has covered high school sports in various capacities for over 20 years.
A visitor from today wouldn’t have recognized what he saw on Nov. 27, 1982.
That day — as they did on Saturday — the Tigers hosted Arkansas State. The Tigers also got a victory that day and they did so Saturday as well, riding a four-touchdown performance from Jaylin Carter to come out on top, 42-24.
