At 50 years old, Altruria Elementary in the Bartlett City Schools district was starting to show its age, enough so that it was time to move to a new building not far away.
It’ll be a new school with a fresh look and state-of-the-art technology, an upgrade from the school’s origin in the mid-1970s.
The suburban district broke ground on the new Altruria Elementary — just behind the old Altruria School at 6641 Deermont Drive — on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The existing school will remain open during construction then razed when the new building is ready for students, hopefully by the end of 2027.
