What it means to lose Tennessee’s first Ikea

Fanya Slocum frequently travels from her hometown of Benton, Arkansas, near Little Rock, to IKEA Memphis.

When she did so Tuesday, Feb. 10, she didn’t know then the Swedish retailer had announced that morning the Memphis store would close May 3.

“I come here very often,” Slocum said. “All my house is (furnished by) Ikea. It’s really sad. It’s a really good location, and it’s close.”
