With his Lakeland Town Square mixed-use project in the final stages, developer Vince Smith is intensifying the start of construction on his other mixed-use project in the northeast Shelby County suburb.

Smith was one of four speakers featured at the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce monthly membership luncheon Wednesday. Shawn Massey, Bart Thomas and David McLemore joined Smith on the program at the Lakeland Golf Club. All four are involved with Ashmont, a 100-acre mixed-use project just north of the Interstate 40 and Canada Road interchange.

Smith is developing Ashmont as well as the Lakeland Town Square on U.S. 70. He said the apartments at Lakeland Town Square are 85% occupied with some of the highest rents in Shelby County. He is trying to fill the final outparcels and commercial bays.
