‘An existential threat’: Supreme Court ruling on freight brokers could impact smaller operations

Trucking analysts expect a huge impact on the industry from the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that freight brokers can be held liable in injury cases caused by carriers they hire.
The ruling is “the most pivotal moment” for trucking since deregulation and a possible “extinction event” for 30% to 50% of freight brokers nationwide, said Craig Fuller, CEO of FreightWaves, a publication focused on the trucking and logistics industry.
But some local experts say the impacts might only extend to smaller brokers.
